MAMA is an independent, non-profit
organization of Villanova students that
provides basic life necessities to a young
child by assisting his or her struggling
mother for one month. As members of
MAMA, we give a lifeline to single mothers
and their children, giving them the boost
they need to achieve long-term stability and
to live more comfortably as a family.
Our Mission
How We Started
MAMA was started in 2004 by Raquel Episcopio in her
sophomore year at Villanova all because of a story. She knew
someone who helped a single, struggling mother at the age of 20
years old with a 6 month old baby girl.  The father of the child
was abusive and left her to raise the baby all alone. She was
lucky enough to have a caring mother who supported her, but it
was still not enough since her own mother was the sole provider
of their family.  Raquel listened to the story with a heavy heart.
She reached out to her parents for help, and they supported her
cause with some diapers, baby clothes, and baby formula, but
she still felt that she could do more. She got some friends
together and created Miracle for A Mom Association or MAMA.
From then on, MAMA has been an active group of Villanova
students, who help struggling mothers and their children by
offering as much support as they can through fundraising and
service.
